Some love stories begin long before the ring comes out.

For Michael and Mattie, their unforgettable Palm Beach proposal began weeks earlier with a phone call from their best friend, Brennon. He was looking for a Palm Beach proposal photographer who could do more than capture the moment. He wanted someone who could help make the surprise happen. Together, we planned every detail to make sure Mattie would have absolutely no idea what was coming.

With a trip to Paris just weeks away, everyone assumed that might be where Michael would propose. Instead, he chose Palm Beach, where both of their families could be together before the trip. He wanted to ask the biggest question of his life surrounded by the people they love most. The plan was simple, but keeping it a secret was the challenge.

Michael told Mattie that his parents wanted to take a few family photos near the fountain before dinner. Brennon would bring her to the location, while Michael arrived straight from work and waited for her. Then Mattie walked into the square.

Michael was standing beside the fountain in a perfectly tailored blue suit. The moment she saw him, everything changed. The surprise, the excitement, the realization, it was all written across her face. And then he got down on one knee.

Her reaction was everything: disbelief, happy tears, and pure joy. When she said yes, they embraced and took in a moment they will remember for the rest of their lives.

These are the moments I love documenting. Not just the proposal itself, but the genuine emotion of a moment that can only happen once.

After giving Michael and Mattie a few quiet moments to take it all in, we spent some time together capturing portraits around Palm Beach Square. Now officially engaged, they could finally relax, celebrate, and enjoy the excitement of this new chapter together.

Before the proposal, I had suggested one final detail to Michael: bring a bottle of champagne. It turned out to be the perfect way to celebrate.

As the cork popped and they raised their glasses to the future, the nerves gave way to laughter, hugs, and pure excitement. These candid moments are often some of my favorites to photograph because nothing is posed or rehearsed. They are simply the joy of realizing that one of life’s biggest moments has just happened.

With its elegant architecture, charming streets, tropical setting, and timeless atmosphere, Palm Beach was the perfect backdrop for their engagement, giving us the most beautiful setting to capture the beginning of this new chapter for Michael and Mattie.
